When you book a captain, the platform needs time to confirm captain availability, review your booking details, and ensure the captain can prepare for your specific trip. 48 hours is enough to do all of that reliably.

Booking a captain isn't like ordering a car. The captain needs to review your vessel type, departure location, trip duration, and any special requirements. If you've booked a fishing trip, they may need to check conditions, prepare tackle, or coordinate bait. For training sessions, they need to understand your current skill level and goals. What affects availability?

Location: Fort Lauderdale has the most captains. Miami, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach, and the Keys have smaller networks that are still growing. If you're outside Fort Lauderdale, give yourself a few extra days.

Vessel type: Larger vessels (50+ feet, motor yachts, sailboats) may require captains with specific licenses (50-ton, 100-ton Master). These captains are less common, so book earlier.

Trip type: Standard cruises and fishing trips are easy to fill. Specialty trips — sea skeet, dive-certified, Bahamas crossings, overnight passages — require captains with specific experience. Give these a week or more.

Season: South Florida boating peaks from November through April. During peak season, weekends book up fast. If you want a Saturday in March, book a week ahead. Summer is more flexible.
